48th Infantry, First State Color, see Addenda, AVC p. 535. The 48th is exclusively from Schuylkill County and was organized in September 1861. The color was presented by Governor Curtin on September 20. In the winter of 1863-1864 most of the men re-enlisted, and the flag was left behind in February 1864. The regiment was mustered out of service on July 17, 1865.

The second flag was received in February 1864 when the tattered first state color was left behind when the men returned to the front. The regiment was mustered out of service on July 17, 1865.
