1st Cavalry, (44th Regiment), First State Standard, presented on September 10, 1861. The regiment was composed of men from Juniata, Montgomery, Mifflin, Clinton, Centre, Greene, Blair, Cumberland, Fayette, Washington, Allegheny, and Berks counties, and was formed in July 1861. Those who did not re-enlist were mustered out of service on September 9, 1864.

1st Cavalry, (44th Regiment), Second State Standard. The regiment was composed of men from Juniata, Montgomery, Mifflin, Clinton, Centre, Greene, Blair, Cumberland, Fayette, Washington, Allegheny, and Berks counties, and was formed in July 1861. The second state standard was issued in December 1864. The flag was retired shortly after Lee's surrender when the survivors consolidated with the 6th and 17th PA Cavalry to form the 2nd Provisional Cavalry.
