42nd Infantry, Company I Flag, Presented by the ladies of Curwensville. Due to the loss of the state color, Company I's flag was briefly used as the regimental color. Nicknamed the "Bucktails" and the "Kane Rifle Regiment of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps," the 42nd was organized in June 1861 and mustered out on June 11, 1864. The regiment was composed of men from Tioga, Perry, Cameron, Warren, Carbon, Elk, Chester, McKean, and Clearfield counties.

149th Regiment, Presentation Color to the 42nd PA. Nicknamed the "Bucktails", "Kane Rifle Regiment" or more commonly the "First PA Rifles," the 42nd was organized in June 1861 and mustered out on June 11, 1864. The regiment was composed of men from Tioga, Perry, Cameron, Warren, Carbon, Elk, Chester, McKean, and Clearfield counties. This flag was presented to the 42nd regiment by the 149th. After being mustered out, men who re-enlisted were assigned to the 190th PA who carried the flag until its capture

The flag of the 42nd PA, "Bucktails" was on permanent loan with the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of National History from 1899 until 2003. It was returned to the Commonwealth in April of 2003.
